2020 Social Media Comments
An investigation by the Utah Department of Corrections found that Agent Gist had made social media posts that were insulting to Muslims, Latinos, and Native Americans. Gist also wrote that he wanted to punch people who didn't support President Donald Trump. The postings were made from 2016 through 2020.
In October 2020, the director of Utah Adult Probation and Parole (part of the Utah Department of Corrections) gave Gist notice that he would be fired.
In December 2020, Gist was formally terminated.
2021 Service Comments
On September 28, 2021, Moab City Utah Police Department Officer Gist used the police radio channel to discuss that he was no longer working with the department. He used vulgarities in reference to the town's assistant police chief.
