Incident Reports

2017 Department Audit

In 2017, an external audit of the Fort Myers Police Department alleged that officers were involved in drug trafficking, murder, and public corruption. While the report named Jackson, the FBI did not charge him.[2]

Response Timeline

In 2017, Jackson was placed on paid leave.[2]

On April 6, 2021, Jackson returned to duty, after earning about $275,000 while on paid leave.[2]

The department began a new internal affairs investigation.[2]

The investigation found that Jackson had interfered with an internal affairs investigation, associated with convicted felons, maintained a personal relationship with an active/confidential informant, maintained a sexual relationship with a former confidential informant, and failed to devote time and attention to the service of the city.[2]

On November 29, 2021, Jackson was fired.[2]

Jackson's union filed a grievance in an attempt to have him reinstated.[4]

On April 26, 2022, the appeal arbitration began. The hearings were closed to the public and the media due to the scheduled testimony of a confidential informant.[5]
