2016 Assault of Patrick Gehrlein
On October 10, 2016, Griffith responded to a domestic disturbance and took Patrick Gehrlein into custody. Griffith was accused of kicking Gehrlein in the face while he was handcuffed and prone. Three other officers reported the assault.
In December 2016, Griffith was suspended without pay.
Griffith was charged with misdemeanor simple assault.
In 2017, Griffith was acquitted of the charge.
In 2017, Griffith was reinstated to the police force.
2021 Arrest for Domestic Violence
On February 13, 2021, Griffith's wife called 911 to report that he had repeatedly struck her in the face.
Griffith was "immediately" placed on administrative leave.
In February 2021, Griffith was arrested and charged with a second-degree misdemeanor count of simple assault.
In February 2021, Griffith was suspended from the department.
In March 2021, Griffith's suspension became unpaid.
On November 12, 2021, Griffith was convicted of a lesser charge of third-degree misdemeanor simple assault, which carries a maximum sentence of a year in prison.
After the domestic violence conviction, Griffith would not be eligible for police officer certification in Pennsylvania, nor would he be allowed to possess a firearm under federal law.
