Ajmal Amani (2021)
On November 19, 2021, San Francisco California Police Department Officers John Quinlan and Danny De Leon Garcia responded to a 911 call of a man threatening people with a knife at a residential hotel. Two victims directed the officers toward Amani's room, and they found Amani in the hallway.
Quinlan drew his handgun and De Leon Garcia was armed with a "bean bag weapon". They called for other officers to bring a tactical shield and requested that an ambulance be staged nearby. Amani charged at the officers with the knife, and both officers fired.
Officers waited several minutes until the tactical shield arrived before approaching Amani, disarming him, and rendering aid. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Both officers were wearing body-worn cameras, which had been activated.
