2024 Shooting

On October 30, 2024, Mascia reported that he approached a vehicle that was parked on the median of the road. The driver fired several rounds, one striking Mascia in the leg. Mascia provided the make, model, and license plate for a vehicle.[1][4]

Response Timeline

The agency opened an internal investigation.[4]

The county District Attorney opened an investigation due to "certain inconsistencies" in the report.[4]

On November 4, 2024, Mascia was suspended without pay.[4]

On November 4, 2024, police called off the search for the vehicle while the investigation considers whether Mascia shot himself.

On January 24, 2025, Mascia resigned.[2][5]

On January 27, 2025, Mascia was arrested.[5]

On May 21, 2025, Mascia pleaded guilty to falsely reporting an incident, tampering with physical evidence, and official misconduct.[6][5]
