2019 Misconduct

On November 21, 2019, the mother of William's child contacted an auditor for the state's Criminal Justice Computer System to report her suspicion that Williams had used the system to access her driving records in a search for leverage during their child support and custody litigation. Williams had provided information to his attorney and had contacted the woman's insurance company to report her for driving on a suspended license.[1]

Response Timeline

On November 21, 2019, Williams was placed on paid administrative leave after admitting to the accusations.[3]

On December 12, 2019, Williams resigned from the department.[1]

On February 20, 2020, Williams was charged with official misconduct, a class A misdemeanor.[1]

Williams requested the use of a diversion agreement, which can be a way for first-time offenders to avoid prosecution by completing a program.[3]

The original case was dismissed because the definition of "confidential information" was too vague to support prosecution.[4]

On January 24, 2022, Williams was charged with a felony related to unauthorized use of police computer systems.[4]
