2021 Arrest of Darrell Browning

On March 9, 2021, Louisville Metro Police Department officers chased a stolen car to a commercial location. Sherrard responded to the scene, allowing his wife to accompany him. Sherrard left his wife in the vehicle while he and other officers chased Browning into a building.[2] After exiting the business, Browning and officers exchanged gunfire.[6]

A news helicopter captured the vehicle chase.[7] Dashcam and body-worn camera footage was also released.[8]

Sherrard's wife later moved the police vehicle into the crime scene area, and Sherrard attempted to influence witnesses to not reveal his wife's actions.[2]

On March 12, 2021, Sherrard was suspended with pay.[2]

On May 7, 2021, Sherrard resigned.[2]

Due to state law at the time, the investigation ended when Sherrard resigned.[3]

2021 Social Media Posting

Sherrard posted a picture to social media that showed an open alcohol container in a moving vehicle.[4]

Response Timeline

On September 15, 2021, Sherrard was fired for posting the picture and for withholding information when he applied to the department.[4]
