Tahmon Wilson (2023)
Overview
On August 19, 2023, Martinez California Police Department officers Cole Bennett, Raul Ceja-Mendez, Marc Kahue, and Alexander Tirona responded to a security alarm at a business. The officers located a vehicle leaving. Police claim that the vehicle struck one officer and drove toward others, prompting the officers to shoot, striking brothers Tahmon and Tommy Wilson.[1][2]
Tahmon died at the hospital.[3]
The incident was captured on the officers' body-worn cameras.[1]
The officers were placed on administrative leave.[4]
No charges were filed against Tommy Wilson.[1]
The department opened an internal administrative investigation.[1]
The California Department of Justice will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting, which is required under state law for officer-involved shootings of unarmed individuals.[5]
