Critical Incident Video Release

On May 19, 2024, San Antonio Texas Police Department officers Travis Maxwell and Daniel Garcia responded to a call for someone smoking marijuana at a swimming pool. The patrol vehicle's license plate reader alerted to a stolen vehicle.[1]

As the officers went to investigate the original call, Cuevas entered the stolen vehicle. The officers ran toward the vehicle as Cuevas drove toward the officers. Maxwell and Garcia fired, striking Cuevas once.[1]

Officers rendered aid until paramedics arrived.[2] Cuevas died at the hospital.[1]

The incident was captured on officers' body-worn cameras.[1]

On June 18, 2024, the agency released parts of the body-worn camera footage.[1]
