2020 DUI Arrest
On September 8, 2020, Renteria had been drinking with other officers while off-duty. After leaving a bar, he crashed his car with another vehicle, fracturing and dislocating his ribs.[1][3]
Renteria refused to give a blood sample to determine his blood alcohol level.[3]
Department Response
On September 20, 2021, an Internal Affairs investigation found Renteria had engaged in conduct unbecoming an officer, that he failed to cooperate with another law enforcement agency, and gave untruthful statements. Renteria also violated police and city policy for unlawful conduct due to his guilty plea for reckless driving. The investigation was performed after the criminal case had been resolved.[1][3]
On November 5, 2021, Renteria was fired.[1]
Legal Action
Renteria was charged with driving under the influence with property damage or injury.[1]
On May 17, 2021, Renteria pleaded guilty to lesser charges of reckless driving causing property damage.[1]
