Incident Reports
2023 Death of Christopher De Arman
Aguilar and Jacob Meyers stopped De Arman's vehicle.[3] During a check, officers learned that De Arman had prior charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm. When officers attempted to remove De Arman from the vehicle, he drove off.[4]
De Arman soon stopped, exited his vehicle with a handgun, and fired at officers. The officers returned fire, striking De Arman. De Arman died at the hospital.[3]
Response Timeline
Aguilar was placed on administrative leave.[3]
On March 29, 2024, the San Diego County District Attorney determined that the encounter did not violate any state laws, concluding that the initial stop, inability to use less-than-lethal options, inability to de-escalate, and the shooting itself were reasonable due to De Arman's "sudden and violent actions" that created "an imminent threat of death of serious bodily injury".[5]
