2022 Assault
On October 23, 2022, Thompson stopped a driver who was part of a "vehicle disturbance" in another town. The driver complied with orders to exit the vehicle, but "physical force and a Taser were used" while handcuffing him.[1] Thompson hit the driver several times around the face and head with a closed fist.[3]
The incident was captured on body-worn and in-vehicle cameras.[1]

The department ruled that Thompson had used excessive force during the arrest and that the use of force report filed by Thompson was not consistent with available video.[1]
On November 7, 2022, Thompson was placed on paid administrative leave.[4]
On December 9, 2022, Thompson was fired.[1]
On March 30, 2023, a grand jury indicted Thompson on charges of official oppression and assault.[1]
