Response Timeline
On March 4, 2022, the department launched an internal investigation into the sanitization of Cain's cell phone.[2]
In April 2022, Cain was placed on paid leave during the investigation around his cell phone.[2]
On April 11, 2022, the State Inspector General's office took over the investigation into the erasing of cell phones.[3]
On June 17, 2022, Cain announced his retirement.[2]
