2017 Abuse of Authority

In July 2017, Debonet was accused of abuse of authority for threatening to notify the Administration for Children’s Services when he responded to a domestic dispute.[2]

Response Timeline

The Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) determined that the conduct did not violate department policy.[2]

2022 Road Rage

On July 23, 2022, Debonet got into an argument with a neighbor while they were both driving. Debonet followed the driver, got out of his car, broke the driver's side mirror of the other vehicle, and drove off.[2]

Later that day, Debonet showed up at the driver's house, waved a gun in his father's face, and threatened him.[2]

Part of the incident was captured on cell phone video.[4]

Response Timeline

On July 25, 2022, Debonet was suspended without pay.[2]

Debonet was charged with criminal mischief and menacing with a weapon.[2]

The driver's parents sued the department and Debonet for $20 million in damages.[5]
