Gregory Gross Press Conference Video

On April 12, 2020, Gross was involved in a slow-speed collision. Responding officers believed that he was under the influence.[1]

Yuba City California Police Department Officer Joshua Jackson escorted the handcuffed Gross to a police vehicle. Jackson twisted Gross' arm for "pain compliance" and took him to the ground, claiming that Gross was "just not going with the program". Outside the hospital, Jackson took Gross to the ground again and held him face down. Gross complained that he could not feel his legs and that he could not breathe. Gross was transferred to a wheelchair without any support for his head or neck, and was moved several times in the hospital without support.[1][2]

On April 12, 2020, Gross was charged with hit and run, DUI, and resisting arrest.[3] Gross' blood alcohol level was over .15, approximately twice the legal limit.[4]

The incident was captured on several body-worn cameras.[1]

Gross suffered a broken neck and is unable to walk.[1]

On September 28, 2020, Gross pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against him.[5]

In 2021, Gross sued the hospital for medical misconduct in not protecting his spine from further injury.[1][3]

On February 22, 2021, Jackson left the department.[6]

On January 4, 2022, Gross sued Jackson and the city for violations of his civil rights.[7]

On March 24, 2022, Gross pleaded no contest to DUI and hit and run and was sentenced to three years of probation.[5]

On July 11, 2023, Gross settled his lawsuit with the city for $20 million.[1]

We have reached out to the local District Attorney to see if they have reviewed the case.
