2022 Assault
On June 24, 2022, Lugo was off-duty and attending a protest when he struck one of the protesters. Lugo claims he was protecting someone who was being attacked.[1]

On June 25, 2022, Lugo was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.[1]
On June 25, 2022, Lugo was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct.[4]
On July 8, 2022, Lugo pleaded not guilty.[5]
On November 16, 2022, a judge acquitted Lugo of the assault charge, finding that the incident was a result of Lugo's duty to "maintain public order".[6]
On January 5, 2023, Lugo's criminal record was sealed and will not be available to the public.[7]
