2017 Shooting of Guadalupe Balderas
On April 15, 2017, police were called to a disturbance. They found Balderas with a combat-style knife, which he refused to drop. One officer deployed his taser, and Vega shot Balderas, who recovered from his wounds.[1]
Balderas was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant.[1]
2018 Arrest of Kimberly Esparza
Response Timeline
Vega was suspended two days for muting his body-worn camera during portions of the incident.[2][3]
