2018 Misconduct
In 2018, an investigation found that Melendez was filing accident reports weeks or months late, but using current dates. Troopers are required to submit their reports within 10 days of completing their investigation.[2]

On June 28, 2019, Melendez was charged with five felony counts of official misconduct.[3]
On April 22, 2022, Melendez was found guilty of two felony counts of official misconduct. The judge withheld adjudication, so Melendez is not considered to be a convicted felon. Melendez was sentenced to one year of probation and 40 hours of community service.[2]
