Overview

Critical Incident Briefing

On January 26, 2023, Los Angeles County California Sheriff's Department deputies were serving a warrant for a woman wanted on assault charges. Lopez was also in the residence, and moved toward deputies while holding a firearm. After ignoring commands to drop the firearm and reaching to grab one deputy's firearm, deputies Edward Martinez and Marc Elizondo fired, striking Lopez. Paramedics rendered aid, and Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.[1]

The incident was captured on deputies' body worn cameras.[2]
