2023 Battery

News report with body-worn camera footage

On December 14, 2023, officers arrested a suspect for domestic battery and violating an order of protection. Tabisz arrived as a transport officer.[6]

As Tabisz walked the handcuffed man to his vehicle, Tabisz threw him to the ground and then stood over him saying, "Oh, you fell! Why'd you fall?".[6]

The incident was captured on officers' body-worn cameras.[6]

Response Timeline

On December 14, 2023, Tabisz was placed on administrative leave.[7]

On December 15, 2023, the department contacted the Lake County State’s Attorney's Office.[7]

On January 3, 2024, Tabisz was charged with two counts of felony official misconduct and two counts of misdemeanor battery.[7][6]

LEO Ratings reached out to the agency to determine if all of the other officers reported the use of force or if they were investigated for failure to intervene, both of which are required by department policy. (2024-01-15)[8]
