2021 Death of Antonio Carbajal

On January 12, 2021, officers located a vehicle that was wanted from two earlier occasions. Carbajal, the driver fled from the vehicle on foot. Three officers chased Carbajal. One officer reached Carbajal, who drew a handgun. The other two officers, Aguirre-Sanchez and Officer Alexander Lokker, fired, striking Carbajal.[3]

Officers rendered aid. Carbajal died at the scene.[3]

2024 Death of Christopher Tavares

Critical Incident Briefing

On May 7, 2024, a store employee flagged down Aguirre-Sanchez to report a shoplifting and identified two suspects who were nearby. Aguirre-Sanchez drove toward the suspects, who fled on foot. As Aguirre-Sanchez approached in his vehicle, Tavares drew a handgun and fired, striking the vehicle. Aguirre-Sanchez drove away, notified dispatch, and circled back to the men. Tavaras fired at the vehicle and Aguirre-Sanchez fired at Tavares from the vehicle, striking him. Aguirre-Sanchez fired a total of 29 rounds at Tavares.[1][4]

Officers rendered medical aid. Tavares died at the hospital.[1]

Parts of the the incident were captured on surveillance cameras and Aguirre-Sanchez's body-worn camera.

Aguirre-Sanchez was placed on administrative leave.[1]
