Response Timeline
On March 29, 2022, Schroeder was suspended pending the outcome of criminal and internal investigations.[3]
On August 31, 2022, the Attorney General charged Schroeder with felony misconduct in office and misdemeanor aggravated assault. Schroeder faces up to five years in custody for the misconduct and one year for the assault. Engelhart, Vasquez, and Tebedo were charged with misdemeanor willful neglect of duty for not intervening, and face up to one year in custody.[4][5]
On January 22, 2024, Schroeder pleaded no contest to Aggravated Assault and Neglect of Duty. As part of the plea, Schroeder resigned and surrendered his certification.[2]
