Overview

On December 5, 2018, Glendale Arizona Police Department Sergeant Aaron Aldridge and an unnamed officer were conducting a bike theft sting operation when James Hurst took the bait bicycle. The officers stopped Hurst, who dropped the bike and put his hands up. Aldridge tased Hurst, who was then handcuffed and arrested.[1]

Hurst pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge.[1]

A spokesperson for the department stated that Glendale police command staff had determined that Aldridge’s use of force violated policies. Aldridge was not suspended, but was required to be re-trained on taser and use-of-force policies.[1]
