2019 Chief's Commendation
In August 2019, Holford received the Chief's Commendation from the agency for supervising the arrest of an armed robbery suspect.[3]

In 2022, Holford received a Special Commendation from the agency for aiding a person who had been shot.[4]
Incident Reports
2008 Arrest of Joseph Jakubowski
On March 2, 2008, Holford stopped Jakubowski for an invalid license. Jakubowski exited his vehicle and attacked Holford.[5]
Response Timeline
Jakubowski was convicted of disarming a peace officer and misdemeanor bail jumping and was sentenced to probation.[6][7]
In 2017, Jakubowski robbed a gun store and sent threats to the White House, leading to a 10-day manhunt.[8] Jakubowski was caught, convicted on firearms charges, and sentenced to 14 years in federal prison.[9]
2024 Death of Andrew Zigler
On March 1, 2024, Holford and other officers responded to a complaint of an armed person who had pointed a gun at himself and two other occupants of the house. Zigler refused attempts to communicate with the officers. During the standoff, Holford believed Zigler had moved his gun to a better shooting position. Holford fired, striking Zigler.[10]
Zigler was pronounced dead at the scene.[10]
The incident was captured on Holford's body-worn camera.[4]

Holford was placed on administrative leave.[11]
An investigation will be conducted by an independent agency, which is required under state law for incidents where a person dies during an encounter with a police officer. The state Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) opened an investigation.[4]
On May 3, 2024, the Rock County District Attorney declared that the use of force was lawful.[10]
