2025 Sexual Assaults
On June 22, 2025, a woman left a home after fighting with her boyfriend. The woman flagged down Cochran, who offered to let the woman sit in his vehicle. The woman claimed that Cochran touched her while he drove and asked her to perform a sex act.[1]
The woman reported the incident to the police.[1]
On June 23, 2025, police stopped Cochran, who was "driving with an evasive nature with the intent to elude [the officer]". A different woman in the passenger seat stated that she was OK, and Cochran claimed that the woman had called him for a ride from the jail. After Cochran dropped the woman off, the officer interviewed her. The woman claimed that Cochran had offered her a ride while she was walking, and Cochran touched her and requested sex acts.[1]

The North Carolina Bureau of Investigation, Tribal Police, and the FBI investigated.[1]
On June 27, 2025, Cochran was arrested and charged with assault on a female, felonious restraint, sexual battery, and solicitation to commit prostitution.[4] Cochran was charged in Tribal court with two counts of oppression in office and one count of abusive sexual contact.[1]
On June 27, 2025, Cochran was suspended.[1]
On July 1, 2025, Cochran retired.[2]
On July 21, 2025, a grand jury indicted Cochran for one count of second-degree forcible rape.[4] Cochran faces 44 to 182 months in prison.[5]
