2020 Arrest of Dustin Bates
On November 23, 2020, Granado ran the license plate on Bates' motorcycle and determined that the plate did not match the vehicle. Granado attempted to stop Bates, who fled and led Granado on a pursuit. Bates lost control of his motorcycle and attempted to flee on foot through a field. Granado drove his police SUV towards Bates, and claims that he lost control of the vehicle on the wet grass and struck Bates.[2]
Bates suffered a fractured spine, a broken leg, and three broken ribs,[5] and was charged with evading arrest and drug possession.[6]
The incident was captured on Granado's dash camera.[7]

Granado was placed on leave during the investigation.[2]
The Grand Prairie Police Department investigated for any criminal violations. Granado had previously been employed by the Grand Prarie Police Department.[2] The investigation determined that the vehicle "indicated the presence of a yaw mark, which is where the tires lose traction... immediately prior to the officer striking the suspect".[1]
The Lake Worth Police Department investigation determined that Granado had violated policies regarding operating a vehicle without injury. Granado was suspended for two weeks and assigned additional training on vehicle operation.[2][3][5]
On March 4, 2021, a grand jury declined to indict Granado.[1]
On April 29, 2021, Bates filed a lawsuit against Granado, the department, and others.[8]
On June 11, 2021, Bates withdrew his lawsuit in order to better prepare.[8]
In August 2021, the charges against Bates were dismissed.[6]
On January 24, 2022, Bates filed a revised federal lawsuit.[2][3]
2021 Death of Estevan Ramirez
On September 3, 2021, Granado tried to pull over a speeding car. The vehicle fled. During the chase, officers were informed that the occupants were "armed and dangerous".[2]
The vehicle crashed, and the occcupants tried to flee on foot. According to police, Ramirez exited the vehicle with a gun and pointed it at officers.[2]
Granado shot Ramirez, who died at the scene.[3][9]
The incident was captured on video from multiple angles, including two body-worn cameras and in-car cameras.[10][11]

On December 22, 2021, the case was submitted to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.[2]
On October 17, 2022, Ramirez's family filed a lawsuit, alleging that Granado used excessive force and the city failed to properly train or supervise Granado.
