2021-2022 Narcotics Distribution Arrest

Between June 2021 and October 2022, Denning arranged for cocaine and methamphetamine purchases in California and Arizona to be shipped to someone who was actually a DEA informant.[7][8]

Response Timeline

On January 25, 2023, Denning was arrested and charged with six counts of violating federal narcotics laws. Denning faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine if convicted.[7]

On January 25, 2023, Denning resigned.[1]

On April 16, 2024, Denning pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine. Denning admitted to conspiring with Officer Regina McAtee. Denning faces 5-40 years in prison.[9]

Evidence Theft

After Denning's arrest in January 2023, an audit of the police evidence storage areas was performed. A backpack that contained "illegal steroids and suspected psilocybin mushrooms missing" was missing. Denning was the investigator on the case and had access to the evidence areas.[10]
