2020 Assault of Elvis Hester
Response Timeline
On August 25, 2020, Jones was suspended for 10 days without pay for violating the agency's excessive force and unsatisfactory performance policies.[3]
On January 13, 2021, Hester filed a lawsuit against the county and several deputies for violation of his civil rights under the First and Fourteenth Amendments and use of unnecessary and excessive force.[3]
In March 2023, the lawsuit was settled.[3]

On September 20, 2023, Jones was indicted for second-degree murder, aggravated assault while acting in concert with others, assault causing bodily harm, and assault.[4]
