Flint police officer allegedly assaults handcuffed man

On January 26, 2023, Flint Michigan Police Department officers responded to Taylor's home on a welfare check. Taylor reportedly swung at the officers, who took him to the ground and handcuffed him. Minutes later, Officer Charles Redmond punched and kicked Taylor in the head.[1]

Redmond was placed on unpaid administrative leave.[1]

An internal investigation determined that Redmond had used excessive force. The incident was forwarded to the local prosecutor for criminal charges.[1]

Redmond was charged with misdemeanor assault[1] and faces up to 93 days imprisonment or a small fine.[2]

In June 2023, the charges against Redmond were dropped. Redmond returned to active duty.[3]
