2021 DUI
On October 26, 2021, Smith was driving and hit a car that was parked in front of the owner's house. He left the scene, called police to report that his wife had hit a car, picked up his wife, and drove the car back to the scene of the accident. Smith told responding officers that his wife had been driving.[3]
Doorbell video was "inconsistent" with Smith's version of events.[1]
Smith asked one of the responding officers to turn off his body-worn camera, and then confessed to being the driver.[1]
The Kansas Highway Patrol took over the investigation, and found that Smith smelled of alcohol and was slurring his speech. Smith's BAC was .089, above the state limit of .08.[1]
