2025 MADD Hero Award
On July 1, 2025, Carrico was presented the MADD Hero award for "exceptional dedication to combatting drunk driving". In 2024, Carrico "participated in nearly 35 DUI investigations and made 27 DUI arrests, more than any other patrol member".[6]
Incident Reports
2025 Arrest of Mackenzie Padilla
On November 1, 2025, Carrico pulled Padilla over for speeding.[7]
Carrico handcuffed Padilla and put her in a patrol vehicle without using a seatbelt. Padilla was 8 months pregnant.[7]
At the booking facility, Carrico pulled Padilla's arm. Padilla said "ow" and pulled away. Carrico pushed Padilla against the wall. Carrico hit Padilla in the head.
Carrico was arrested and charged with assault upon a bound or restrained victim.
Carrico's report on the incident did not document the use of force.[4]
The incident was captured on body-worn camera and surveillance cameras.
Response Timeline
In January 2026, the agency requested the Maricopa County Arizona Sheriff's Office investigate.[1]
Carrico was suspended without pay.[1]

Padilla filed a lawsuit against Carrico for violating her civil rights.[7]
2026 Arrest of Corey Stringham
On January 25, 2026, Carrico arrested Stringham for aggravated assault, criminal damage, and assault with intent to injure. Stringham was handcuffed and transported to the booking facility. As Stringham exited the vehicle, he lunged forward and headbutted Carrico. Carrico took Stringham to the ground. While Carrico and another officer had Stringham pinned against a wall, Carrico punched him in the face. Later, as Carrico and other officers were moving Stringham, Carrico struck Stringham in the head with a closed fist without provocation.[8][9]
The incident was captured on surveillance cameras.
Response Timeline
On May 27, 2026, a grand jury indicted Carrico on two counts of felony aggravated assault, covering this incident and a later one, below.[10]
In June 2026, Carrico resigned.[4]
On June 24, 2026, Carrico pleaded not guilty.[10]
