Angel Ledesma (2023)
Overview
On August 27, 2023, Los Angeles California Police Department officers Eric Hernandez and Randy Portillo noticed Ledesma, who they believed was loitering at an apartment complex. As the officers approached, Ledesma drew a knife and ran toward the officers. Ledesma ignored orders to drop the knife. Hernandez and Portillo fired, striking Ledesma.[1]
Officers waited approximately 5 minutes for backup before approaching Ledesma. Officers rendered aid until paramedics arrived. Ledesma died at the scene.[1]
The incident was captured on officers' body-worn cameras.[2]
The agency's Force Investigation Division opened an investigation.[1]
