On February 13, 2022, Larson found Combs at a car dealership, attempting to steal a vehicle. Larson ordered Combs from the vehicle. Combs eventually complied, but then ran to and entered Larson's SUV. Larson fired, killing Combs.[2]

Response Timeline

On May 20, 2022, Larson was fired for "violation of company policies or procedures".[1] The Chief claimed Larson "made false statements about what happened in the hours before the shooting, and he refused to cooperate with my department's administrative review".[4]

The District Attorney declined to file charges, as there was a rifle in the vehicle, and the vehicle was a threat in itself.[2]

In August 2022, Comb's family filed a lawsuit, accusing Larson of excessive force and the city of wrongful death.[2]

In June 2023, the city settled the family's lawsuit for $1.4 million.[5]
