2018 Arrest of Jeffrey Jones

On August 5, 2018, Ellison stopped Jones for broken brake lights. Jones' family claims that the brake lights were working when they got the car from the impound lot.[2]

Jones was arrested for DUI.[2]

2022 Arrest of Brent Kelly

On June 3, 2022, Ellison and Deputy Tom Baker responded to a report of destruction of property. The officers made contact with Kelly and Richie Holcomb who then entered an RV and exchanged gunfire with the officers.[3]

Baker and Holcomb were killed and Ellison was injured. Kelly was arrested.[3]

Response Timeline

In May 2023, Kelley was charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, four counts of wanton endangerment involving a firearm, and conspiracy.[4]

2022 Detainment of "William"

Analysis with body-worn camera video

On May 13, 2022, William flashed his headlights to warn oncoming drivers of a speed trap. Ellison pulled William over and wrote him a ticket for Special Restrictions on Lamps and also Unsigned Registration Card.[5]

William laughed when Ellison threatened to jail him for not having signed his vehicle registration. Ellison removed William from the vehicle and handcuffed him.[5]

After Ellison spoke with the prosecutor, William was released with only the citation.[6]

The incident was captured on body-worn camera and in-vehicle camera.[5]

Response Timeline

On October 6, 2022, William was convicted for special restriction on lamps. The charge for the unsigned registration card was dismissed.[5]

On November 18, 2022, a court appeal of overturned the conviction.[2]
