2010 Harassment
In March 2010, Boruchowitz filed an application for a search warrant that contained untrue statements about county sheriff candidate Ted Holmes.[5]
On April 17, 2010, Boruchowitz kicked in the door where teenagers were gathered. One attendee was the daughter of county sheriff candidate Scott Cobel. Boruchowitz conducted searches and administered breathalyzer tests without a warrant.[5]
On May 5, 2010, Boruchowitz arrested Beckett, the county District Attorney, on charges of malfeasance of office, embezzlement, 20 counts of fraudulent appropriation of property, and 20 counts of misconduct of a public officer.[5]

2013 Evidence Videos
In 2013, Boruchowitz showed people at the sheriff's office several videos of local adult residents having sex. The videos were found at a residence involved in an investigation for child sex offenses.[2]

Boruchowitz claimed that showing porn was "common practice" but that his behavior was unprofessional and disrespectful.[2]
After the investigation, Boruchowitz was placed on administrative leave.[2]
Jaysan Gal, the child sex offender whose videos were shown, received a new trial due to Boruchowitz's actions. A lawsuit by Gal was settled for $35,000.[2][8]
2015 Sexual Misconduct Investigation
In 2015, the FBI investigated allegations that Boruchowitz was having inappropriate relationships with criminals. A news source reported that one woman had multiple sex acts with Boruchowitz as she feared being arrested on drug charges.[2]

2019 Arrest of Angela Evans
On February 26, 2019, Boruchowitz arrested Evans, claiming that she had embezzled $89,000 from her employer for work done on her property. Boruchowitz planned the arrest to influence Evans to resign her position on the Board of Directors of that company.[9][10][2]

In December 2019, the County District Attorney learned that the work on the property had occurred before Evans owned the property, and declined to prosecute Evans.[2]
In October 2020, Evans sued Boruchowitz and the county for deprivation of her constitutional rights.[2]
In August 2023, a federal grand jury indicted Boruchowitz.[11][10]
In December 2023, Evans' lawsuit was settled for $400,000.[10]
On March 12, 2025, Boruchowitz pleaded guilty to one count of deprivation of rights under color of law and one count of wire fraud. Boruchowitz faces 21 years in prison.[9]
On July 15, 2025, a judge sentenced Boruchowitz to three years of probation.[10]
2022 Arrest of Michael Garcia
On May 18, 2022, Garcia and Boruchowitz were attending a school board meeting. Garcia was asked to leave multiple times, and administrators asked Boruchowitz for assistance. Boruchowitz, who was off-duty, arrested Garcia for trespassing and resisting arrest.[12]
The incident was captured on video.[13]

On January 20, 2023, the Sheriff released a video, stating that he found "nothing improper in Captain Boruchowitz's actions" and labelled Garcia's release of the video as a "smear campaign".[13]
