Bodycam: ‘Power Tripping’ Texas Cop Pulled Off Streets After ‘Buc-ee’s’ Traffic Stop

On April 19, 2023, Harrell contacted Schull, who he thought had been speeding and driving recklessly in the parking lot of a gas station.[2] Harrell felt Schull was not cooperating, threatened to take him to jail, and continued to argue with him. Harrell handcuffed Schull and put him in a police vehicle. Schull was given a ticket for disregarding a traffic control device and was released.[4]

The incident was captured on Harrell's body-worn camera and the gas station's surveillance cameras.[2]

Response Timeline

In May 2023, the department opened an investigation.[2]

Schull's ticket was dismissed.[4]

On September 1, 2023, Harrell was fired.[2]

On May 1, 2024, Schull filed a lawsuit against Harrell, claiming violations of his Constitutional rights.[5]

Schull's civil lawsuit was settled.[6]

On September 3, 2024, a Galveston County grand jury refused to indict Harrell.[6]
