2023 Death of Guillermo Huerta
On March 18, 2023, Mouser responded to a call of a man with a knife in a parking lot and found Huerta, who fled on foot. Mouser shot as Huerta ran near the officer. Huerta died.[1]
The incident was captured on Mouser's body-worn camera.[2]
Response Timeline
The California Department of Justice will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting, which is required under state law for officer-involved shootings of unarmed individuals.[3]
