2022 Marijuana Use

On December 12, 2022, a department employee reported that Johnson smelled strongly of marijuana. When interviewed, Johnson showed signs of impairment, but denied having used marijuana and expressed confidence that she would pass a drug test.^[1]

A drug test came back positive for marijuana, and Johnson admitted to smoking marijuana before coming to work and said that she had no plans to discontinue using marijuana.^[1]

Response Timeline

On August 15, 2023, the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training (POST) revoked Johnson's certification for unprofessional conduct, making false statements, using controlled substances, and a lack of good moral character.^[1]
