The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) opened an investigation.[2]
On December 14, 2021, Lemmon was indicted on charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and misconduct in office.[3] If convicted, the charge of assault carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and the misconduct charge up to 10 years in prison.[4]
On December 14, 2021, Lemmon was suspended by the Governor pending the disposition of the charges.[5]
On December 21, 2021, Lemmon pleaded not guilty.[6]
