2025 Arrest of Paul Werd
On May 10, 2025, Rippeon saw Werd go behind a pillar outside of a closed drug store. Rippeon believed Werd was hiding for him and contacted Werd for suspicious behavior.[4]
Werd got up when his ride arrived, and Rippeon drew his Taser. Rippeon threatened to release his K-9 partner.[4]
Werd was arrested for resisting arrest without violence.[4]
The incident was captured on body-worn camera.[4]
Response Timeline
On June 4, 2025, Rippeon was placed on administrative leave during the agency's internal investigation.[4]
On June 4, 2025, the State Attorney's Office dropped the charges.[1]
On June 5, 2025, Rippeon resigned.[4][7]
Werd filed a civil lawsuit against the city, and offered to drop the case for a $180,000 settlement.[4]
