Perry received the award during a police ceremony.[1]
2014 Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery
On December 12, 2014, Officer Perry and several other officers responded to a home invasion armed robbery. Perry was struck in the leg by one of the suspect’s rounds. Perry and others returned fire, striking the suspect but not stopping him. A second suspect was arrested at the scene, and the first suspect was captured a few hours later.[2]

On June 28, 2022, the District Attorney announced that they would not file charges against Perry, saying that there was "no criminal culpability" and the shooting was "justified".[3]
