The shooting is being investigated by the Orange County District Attorney's Office and the state Department of Justice, which reviews all officer-involved shootings when the victim was unarmed.[1][2]
On January 20, 2022, Garcia's family filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles and the officers involved, alleging the use of excessive force and delinquency during the arrest.[3]
