Between 2011 and 2015, Kinsey received six complaints, including abuse of authority, force, and offensive language. Two of the complaints were substantiated, two were dismissed, and two others were closed due to a lack of witnesses.[1]
2022 Arrest of Tamani Crum
On August 30, 2022, several police officers were attempting to arrest Elvin James during an investigation into an attempted murder when Crum approached the scene. Kinsey attempted to keep Crum back, but she resisted and shoved Kinsey. Kinsey shoved back, and Crum fell to the ground.[4]
Crum was arrested for assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration.[5]
The incident was captured by multiple body-worn cameras.[1]
Response Timeline
New York City Mayor Eric Adams defended Kinsey and warned citizens to "never go inside a scene of apprehension".[4]
The department is conducting an internal investigation.[1]
