2019-2023 Bribery
From April 2019, Jenkins accepted bribes from several businessmen in exchange for naming them as auxiliary deputy sheriffs and issuing badges and identification cards.[5]
Response Timeline
On June 29, 2023, Jenkins was indicted and charged with one count of conspiracy, four counts of honest-services mail and wire fraud, and eight counts of federal programs bribery. Jenkins faces up to 165 years in prison if convicted.[5]
On July 14, 2023, Jenkins pleaded not guilty.[6]
On November 7, 2023, Jenkins lost his bid for re-election and will exit as Sheriff in January.[3]
In December 2024, a jury convicted Jenkins of one count of conspiracy, four counts of honest services fraud, and seven counts of bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds.[7]
On March 21, 2025, Jenkins was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.[7]
