2023 Arrest of Frank Schulpman
On December 9, 2023, a deputy was called to assist paramedics on a medical call. Schulpman, who appeared intoxicated, was swinging at paramedics and assumed a fighting stance with the deputy, who called for backup. Simonetti responded, exited his vehicle, and tackled Schulpman.[3]
Deputies were not equipped with body-worn cameras. The incident was captured on a witness's cell phone.[3]
Response Timeline
On December 11, 2023, Simonetti was placed on administrative leave.[2]
The Sheriff asked the Virginia State Police to investigate.[3]
