In 2020, Sowl filed a civil lawsuit against the city and the officers involved.[4]
Sowl's lawsuit claims that DeLima was one of the officers who physically engaged him and that Assistant Police Chief Tim Brown prompted DeLima to mute his body camera to engage in a conspiracy.[3]
The lawsuit was settled in 2021.[4]
