2016 MSP Bravery Award
In November 2015, Keely and other officers responded to an incident where a woman was held at gunpoint by her ex-husband. After hearing a gunshot, officers entered the hotel room. The suspect shot at officers, striking Keely in his bulletproof vest. Officers returned fire, killing the suspect.[1]
In 2016, Keely and the other officer received the agency's Bravery Award for saving the woman.[1]

On May 28, 2024, Keely was charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. Keely faces up to life in prison for the murder charge.[4][5]
On June 4, 2024, Keely retired.[2]
