Komoda was one of several Vallejo officers who participated in a "Badge of Honor" ritual, in which officers bent their star-shaped badges to commemorate on-duty shootings.[1]
Commendations
2016 Multiple Awards
On April 28, 2016, Komoda received a 10851 Award Level I pin, which is given by the CHP to officers who are involved in multiple stolen vehicle arrests. Komoda also received his second 25400 Award, which is given by the agency to officers who are involved in multiple gun-related arrests.[5][6]
2024 10851 Award
On April 24, 2024, Komoda received his second 10851 Award Master Pin.[7]
Incident Reports
2016 Arrest of Marcus Anigilaje
On August 31, 2016, Anigilaje sped past Komoda and Officer David McLaughlin. The officers attempted to stop Anigilaje, who fled. Anigilaje turned on a dead end road and stopped. As the officers approached the vehicle, Anigilaje reversed the vehicle and drove toward the officers. The officers fired at the vehicle. Anigilaje was not struck.[8][1][2]
Part of the incident was captured on an in-vehicle camera.[2]
2017 Death of Jeffrey Barboa
Komoda was one of several officers who fired, killing Barboa.
2018 Shooting of Dominic Milano
On November 1, 2018, Komoda and other officers chased Milano to Oakland, where they exchanged gunfire.[8][1]
Milano survived.[1]
2023 Shooting of Bryson Jones
On November 20, 2023, Jones led Komoda on a high-speed chase. Komoda shot and wounded Jones.[8][1]
2026 Death of Rommel Querol
On July 20, 2026, officers responded to a report of an armed carjacking. Komoda and Officer Himanshu Saini conducted a felony traffic stop. Querol shot at officers, who returned fire.[4][9]
Officers rendered aid until paramedics arrived. Querol died at the scene.[9]

The Solano County Major Crimes Task Force opened a criminal investigation.[4]
The City of Vallejo retained an independent investigator to conduct the administrative investigation.[4]
The agency opened a Critical Incident Review Board review of "tactics, training, supervision, equipment, and after-action response".[4]
